After upgrading the SOM Board, the following new features will be available to you:

• New Seeds oscillator: Waypoint synthesis providing timbral journeys using sub-oscillators based on various methods like Ring Modulation, FM, Wavetable, Partials and various Noise/DirtTypes.
• Per-Note-Parameter-Locks, allowing individual parameter variations per note inspired by Aphex Twin
• Flavour control for micro-variations in timing, pitch, and timbre
• Multi-Timbral with 4 layers with advanced multi-timbral modes such as round-robin and random-robin
• 6 GB increased sample flash memory preloaded with 2 GB factory samples*
• New polyphonic Arpeggiator modes**
• Mutator patch randomizer**
• The number of available voices (polyphony) remains unchanged.

*Since the Quantum MK2 already has 59 GB of flash memory, the SOM upgrade has no effect here.

Quantum MK1

After upgrading the SOM Board, the following new features will be available to you:

Quantum MK2

• All new features are the same as with the Quantum MK1 SOM upgrade. See above.
• Since the Quantum MK2 already has 59 GB of flash memory, the SOM upgrade has no effect here.
• The number of available voices (polyphony) remains unchanged.

The upgrade costs €598, including VAT and return shipping (within the EU).

Since this requires a hardware upgrade (SOM replacement), your synthesizer must be sent to us at Waldorf headquarters.

In principle, end customers cannot perform the SOM board replacement themselves.

To ensure a smooth process, the dates for the upgrade will be coordinated with you personally.

1. Reserve your upgrade by pre-ordering. The pre-order amount will be deducted from the final upgrade price.
2. As soon as an appointment for your upgrade is available, we will contact you via email with an order confirmation and a secure payment link for the total amount.
3. After we receive your payment, we’ll send you an RMA form. Please fill it out and include a printed copy or the RMA number with your shipment.
4. Pack your instrument carefully before shipping it to Waldorf headquarters. If you do not have a suitable shipping box, you can order one here: link to repair-shop
5. Our service team will install the new SOM board and perform the upgrade.
6. Once the process is complete and your instrument has passed the subsequent test run, we will return your instrument to you with free shipping (within the EU).

Important! Be sure to back up your data (patches and samples), as these will be deleted during the SOM Board upgrade. Waldorf Music cannot back up your data, so we strongly advise you to create a backup in advance.

The billing address is the same as the shipping address.

That depends partly on when you placed your pre-order and partly on the availability of parts. 

Due to high demand, there may be a wait of several weeks.

Once you’ve received a schedule for the modification, you can send in your device. You’ll find the exact address in the RMA.

After we receive your device at our Waldorf headquarters, please allow approximately 10 business days for the modification to be completed and for us to return your device to you. Depending on your shipping address, delivery may take an additional 2–3 business days.

It is best to ship your device in its original packaging. If you do not have a suitable shipping box, you can order one here. 

We recommend purchasing adequate shipping insurance. For more information, please contact your shipping provider.

We are not liable for shipping damage caused by inadequate packaging.

Back up your data (patches and samples) because they will no longer be available after the SOM board upgrade.

Waldorf Music cannot back up your data, so you are responsible for backing up your personal patches and samples yourself.

Since the samples on the Quantum MK2 are stored on the 59GB flash memory (and not on the SOM), backing up the samples is not strictly necessary. However, it certainly can’t hurt.

Since the patches are stored on the SOM board, they must also be backed up on the Quantum MK2.

Tab on the Actions pop-up menu (Load > Actions > Export) to perform the following actions:

• Import lets you import sound programs from a connected MicroSD card or a USB storage device.

• Export lets you export the current sound program or a selection to a connected MicroSD card or a USB storage device. 

All related samples will be stored in a sub direction called ‘samples’. If you keep this structure, then importing these patches like on a different machine will also automatically import all referenced samples. If a sample is already existing internally, it won’t be imported.

Yes, that’s possible. You can enter the number in the info field that appears on the right hand side when you place your order.

In that case, the local distributor is responsible for the replacement.

After replacing the SOM board, we provide a 2-year warranty on the new component. (SOM board)

Withdrawal from the purchase is only possible if your device has not yet been shipped to us.

Since the SOM Board upgrade/replacement is a custom-made product, it cannot be exchanged.

Pursuant to Section § 312g Abs. 2 Nr. 1 BGB of the German Civil Code (BGB), the right of withdrawal is excluded for: goods that are not prefabricated and for whose production an individual selection or specification by the consumer is decisive, or that are clearly tailored to the consumer’s personal needs.

If your synthesizer is defective or has other issues, please let us know in advance.

Your device will be inspected before the upgrade or replacement. If we discover any additional defects during the inspection, we will notify you and reserve the right to bill you separately for the repair costs incurred.
