Just got Pulse 2 and when I checked the firmware was 1.20 so I assumed it would be pretty much bug free...

Wow.

Here's my experience: Unpacked it, inspected the front panel which was satisfactory albeit most of the encoders looked scratched and the volume encoder is warped a bit. Took a look at the back and the TRS in and out jacks are clearly crooked.
Pressed the on button-nothing happened. Turned it off and back on again, nothing happened. Tried a third time and it finally came on...
First of the all both the headphone jack and L&R outputs produce a reversed L&R stereo signal. Yeah, crazy. Tested and retested and the L&R signals are backwards for certain. How does that even happen?
Started going through the sounds and noticed some sounds are completely silent. Cranking up the oscillators does almost nothing. Out of the 200 or so sounds I auditioned, at least 5 were completely silent. No matter what I did, changing parameters I couldn't get a peep out of some sounds.
Then one time the oscillator button stuck on Osc 1. Pressing the button did nothing. Had to switch sounds and start over.

Pretty sure I have a lemon. Returning it tomorrow. What a disappointment...

Hi
Where did you buy this Pulse 2?
From my reading it seems like you got a used device instead of a new?
Thanks

Hi Horst,

Either that or it was just a bad unit. I bought it at a very well known music store, where I've been a customer for quite some time. Actually the sales guy flipped it over and noticed that there were two replacement screws on the bottom. He said they weren't the original screws, so I guess it was used. They already have a new one on order so hopefully I'll get a new one this time.

Since I have your attention Horst, could you tell me the proper way to update the unit when I get it? I've read to use Spectre, or a DAW and Waldorf even recommends Windows media player?.

Like I had mentioned, I went into the system menu and saw that the Pulse 2 was already updated to firmware 1.2 so I didn't have to do anything. Anyway, I hope my replacement P2 synth will actually work properly, because what I've heard so far I really like:).

Hi again

"could you tell me the proper way to update the unit when I get it?"

If you receive a new replacement Pulse2 it should have Firmware 1.20 so you will not have to do anything.
If not follow the instructions by Waldorf: www.waldorf-music.info/en/pulse2downloads

Hi Horst, well would you believe that I received a replacement and had similar results? First two times trying to turn on, it wouldn't. The third time it showed a blank screen, so I switched it off. I turned it on one more time and a black square covered 90 percent of the screen.

Returned the 2nd defective Pulse 2 and told them not to order another one. I'm done with it.

...I even plugged it into my voltage regulator and it didn't make a difference. Every other piece of gear I own works perfectly in the same room using the same electrical outlets-including a Blofeld. Pulse 2 will not work and I'm not trying a third time as I've wasted enough time already.

Anyway, I'll get something better.

Wow, sounds like the distributer may have sent back the same unit. Did you record the serial number of the original?
