Hi
Is anyone experiencing random sound spikes with the quantum.
If so could you document it in some way and link it on the forum so I can send the information to Rolf.
I understand this is very difficult to do as it happens so randomly.
But I think this is a very serious issue that's been going on for some time and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I do. However, I haven't found out any way of replicating this issue. It sometimes happens when I just recall a patch and play. Other times it happens when I do little modifications to a patch, other times when I do extensive patch development. Other times Quantum just locks up, sometimes with a black display and all LEDs on, sometimes with a normally illuminated display and all LEDs on, but nothing but rebooting helps. And most times all goes well. I have no clue as yet how to reproduce these errors.
It seems to me that since beta 3.8 these problems occur less often.
The sound spikes are huge, sometimes short - i.e. < 1sec - sometimes they scream until reboot.
Thanks!

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've spoke to Rolf about this problem and he said it's difficult to fix because it's hard to reproduce. And he mentions that not many people seem to have this problem.

However there are a number of users who have had these sound spikes and have reported it to waldorf.
If you could somehow capture it on video it would be great. But I know how hard that is because it's so random.
Anyway for now I've been told to use a limiter. I hope it works.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Zaneee

I have the same issues.
Many random verry loud (white)noisebursts and crashes.
Can not use headphones.

I found out that mostly samples in the particle engine can have spikes or are to loud.
Put your samples back to zero db or less also the samples overal gain.
Look always on your scope if a sample is looking to wild (big vertical red/green/yellow lines).
A sound or sample from a source must looking good on your scope,
and well nice between the lines for furder use of processing.
In the digital former you can use gain to give it back more volume.
Pushing global > mode > pitch > type > scope > source > osc partical engine.
Pushing on left bottom of your screen is a smaller scope to see.
It would be nice when changing/edditing sources that scope is changing with it.
I think it is verry important, Quantum is a hi-fi sensetive machine.

Keep it up, and do not forget to callibrate.

Hi skaai
Thanks for your reply. The information you have given is really helpful and very much appreciated.
I have been sending emails about this issue to Rolf and he has said its tricky to deal with because its difficult to reproduce and that not many people have this problem. I've sent a ten minute video by Tim shoebridge highlighting the issue.

I think one of the best things to do is to send Rolf as much information as possible as I think this is a very serious problem with the quantum.
I will update when I get some more feedback. Thanks zaneee
