Freeware: Pulse 2 Simple Sound Organizer / Editor (Windows 10)

Hi everyone,

I just want to let you know that a friend and I have developed a tiny Windows 10 tool for our music studio work: Pulse 2 Simple Sound Organizer.

 

With this tool / sound editor you can (without touching the Pulse 2):

• auto-read all the sounds of your connected Pulse 2
• organize/rename the sounds inside target list (renaming also in source list possible)
• write your target list to any connected Pulse 2 via USB or MIDI
• save your target list as SysEx file
• open a Pulse 2 SysEx file into the source list
• preview sounds while browsing through the source list (does not overwrite your current program)
• copy a specific sound to several ranges (1..100, 101...200 etc.), good for initial sounds

 I was really unhappy with the available solutions (e.g. VST plug ins) which did not really work. And since we had a lot of spread SysEx files we needed a way to create new sets of sounds. So this tool was born. Since I want to share this tools as freeware with you, I need to know if you are interessted in. I then have to add some additional help and examples and do some finishing.

I've attached a ZIP containing the pulse 2 Simple Sound Organizer.

Technical Information:
The tool is written in C# and uses the free MIDI library Melanchall.DryWetMidi.dll.
Windows 10 required.

Quick Start:

1. Connect your Pulse 2 via USB or MIDI to your computer.
   
   
2. Start pulse 2 Simple Sound Organizer.
    
   
   
   
   
3. In the tool, select MIDI IN / OUT where your Pulse 2 is connected to.
    
   
   
   
   
4. In Source, click on Read to receive your Pulse 2 Sounds. Those will appear in the Source list.
   This will take a moment.
    
   
   
   
   
   Watch the progress until program no. 500.
    
   
   
   
   
5. In Source (in Target as well), you can rename the sounds. Press the space bar to pre listen to the current selected Source sound (use headphones).
    
   
   
   
   
6. Select one or more sound(s) in Source and use the Add > button to copy the sound(s) to the Target (select a program no. before where it should be copied to).
    
   
   
   
   
7. If one sound is selected in Source, you can batch copy it to pre defined program numbers. This is nice for initial sounds.
    
   
   
   
   
8. If your Target is ready, use the Write button to write the Target sounds to the Pulse 2. Or use Save to store the list as SysEx dump for later use.
   You can either open the SysEx file in the tool (loads into Source) or even play it through any DAW (if sysex playback is supported).
